Privacy & cookies

This notice explains what smilingwolf.co.uk collects, why, and the choices you have.
Who we are
Smiling Wolf Limited is responsible for this website. We’re registered in England and Wales (company number 03701149) at Unit 9, 16 Brick Street, Liverpool L1 0BN. For anything about your data, email team@smilingwolf.co.uk or call 0151 707 6253.
When you get in touch
If you email or call us, we use your name, contact details and what you tell us to reply and, if we work together, to run the project. We keep this for as long as we need it for that and to meet our legal and accounting obligations. We never sell it.
Counting visits without cookies
Until you make a choice in the cookie banner, we count visits anonymously with PostHog, an analytics service hosted in the EU, which we reach through our own address, g.smilingwolf.co.uk. Nothing is stored on your device. PostHog records the pages you view, how long you stay, the site that sent you and your type of browser. To tell visits apart, it uses a code made from your IP address and browser details that changes every day, so it can’t identify you or recognise you on another day. We only look at the totals, to improve the site.
UK law allows this kind of counting without consent, and our lawful basis is our legitimate interest in understanding how the site is used. Choosing Decline in the banner turns it off.
With your consent
If you choose Accept:
- Google Analytics, run by Google, uses cookies to measure visits over time, for example how many people come back. Google keeps this data for no more than 14 months and may process it in the US.
- PostHog uses cookies and your browser’s storage to see how the site is used over time. It may record visits, with everything you type hidden, and show where people click.
You can change your mind at any time with “Cookies” at the bottom of every page. If you decline after accepting, we stop and remove these cookies.
Cookies we use
- sw_consent (Smiling Wolf) remembers your cookie choice for 12 months.
- _ga and _ga_Q612TGH6VE (Google Analytics) measure visits for up to 2 years, only after you accept.
- ph_…_posthog (PostHog) measures how the site is used for up to a year, only after you accept.
Films
Some journal articles show films hosted by Vimeo. Vimeo only loads when you press Play, and we ask it not to track you or set cookies.
Hosting and security
Our host, Krystal, keeps standard server logs, such as IP addresses and the pages requested, to run and protect the site. Our security software, Wordfence, may also log IP addresses to block attacks.
Other websites
We link to other sites, such as Instagram, LinkedIn and our clients’ websites. They have their own privacy policies.
Your rights
You can ask for a copy of the information we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, or object to how we use it. Email team@smilingwolf.co.uk. If you’re unhappy with how we handle your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.
